Wire Rope Slings

Splicing the ends of a piece of wire rope makes an grommet slings, endless grommet slings. It is simple to handle and can be used in several different ways. The endless grommet slings, braided belt slings are most commonly used as a choker hitch. When the endless sling is used as a choker, user passes it around the object forming a loop on top of the object. The other end is passed through this loop, pulled tight and attached to the cargo hook. User spread apart the two parts of the sling on the bottom of the object.
Double part endless slings are available in both ferule spliced and hand spliced.

• Use large enough hooks and large diameter shackles to avoid crushing and kinking of the sling. If possible use Wide-Body shackles. They increase the D/d ratio and you gain sling strength.


• Small diameter shackles reduce the sling strength and, most likely, that small diameter shackle also has insufficient capacity for that job. Shackle or not, objects to be lifted and all hook up points must at least ensure a D/d Ratio of 5:1.


• Proper D/d ratio for the sling capacity. If the sling is too short you may have to adjust the capacity because of the sling angle. The D/d Ratio is the ratio of the diameter around which the sling is bent divided by the body diameter of the sling.

GROMMET WIRE ROPE SLINGS

1. A Grommet consists of an endless rope having construction 6/1 construction & is used where high ultimate breaking strength of the rope is required beyond the limits of a single part rope.
2. A strand of sufficient length to complete the Grommet shall be obtained by either of the following methods:
   Method A: An order strand shall be unlaid from a specimen of 6/1 rope conforming to the requirement of the customer.
   Method B: Unlaying from a specimen of 6/4 rope having strands in all respects equipment to those obtained by method A above.
   Method C: Using a virgin strand either prefromed or post formed & in all other respects equivalent to those obtained by method A & B.
3. During the course of construction of a Grommet the performed lay of the strand shall be maintained and shall not be interfered with, except when laying in the core, for which purpose length of strand left to form the core should be straightened .

4. The length of the strand required to form a Grommet shall be equal to about seven-and-a-half times the parameter of the Grommet.

BRAIDED WIRE ROPE BELT SLINGS
Braided Belt Slings of Wire ropes are ideal for the lifting of the loads which are abrasive, hot or may cut the other types of slings like polyester webbing belt slings. These are ideal for lifting of coils, hot steel loads etc. these slings are made from 4 mm wire rope dia to 16 mm wire rope dia and numbers of wires vary from 6 to 14 depending upon the specific requirements of width and capacity. Generally made of 6x19 steel core construction wire ropes.
